Two omnidirectional capsules are mounted inside realistic artificial ears at human-head spacing. This geometry — called a dummy head — captures the inter-aural time differences and head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) that the brain uses to locate sound in three dimensions. Over headphones, the result is audio that appears to originate from outside your skull: sounds can pass from ear to ear, approach, and retreat. This is the specific quality that drives the ear-attention and ear-to-ear sub-genre of ASMR. Requires two XLR inputs and a stereo preamp or interface.
